Shipping & Returns

SHIPPING

Our shipping policy is designed to help ensure the lowest shipping costs: Shipping can be complicated and an additional expense for your online purchases. We generally do not offer over night delivery. We offer you a choice of shipping provided by the USPS (United States Postal Service) and UPS (United Parcel Service). In rare circumstances when products are shipped by third parties a different carrier may be used. This will not affect the original shipping costs estimated at time of checkout. Amateur Chef offers real time shipping estimates for USPS and UPS. We believe that this is the best way to provide our customers with the lowest shipping rates available. Your shipping rates for products purchased in our Chef Store are based on weight, size, and number of packages needed to fulfill your order as well as shipment origination location.

Different methods employed for shipping: Amateur Chef uses different shipping methods which may have an effect on shipping time. Your location will also affect shipping times. We are located in New Jersey. So products shipped to the west coast will take longer as well as products shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, APO and FPO addresses, or internationally. Some of our products are shipped directly from our warehouse while some products are shipped directly from the manufacturer and still other products are picked up by us at local suppliers and handled in our warehouse for packing. When you place an order your package will typically be shipped within 24 to 48 hours excluding weekends and hoildays.

Shipment origination location: As stated earlier the origination location for product shipment may be directly from the manufacturer or from our warehouse and in some other cases by third party vendors. Amateur Chef will strive to provide the lowest shipping costs. For example: if you order an item that we have in house and an item that is supplied by the same manufacturer but not in our inventory we may have both items shipped by the manufacturer to combine shipping and save you money or if you order an item that we have in house and an item we pick up locally we may delay the first item by one day to pick up the second item and combine the order to save you money. We will not however delay one order for a seperate order. Origination location may also adversely affect your shipping costs. For example: If you order two products from diffenent suppliers and we are unable to combine your shipment you may incur seperate shipping charges. For this reason we provide product lists by manufacturer as well.

Exceptions for back order and Special Price Items: We try to keep our inventory up to date to avoid back orders but sometimes products will be purchased before we can restock or our suppliers may need to restock. Additionally, Special Price Items are products we purchase in bulk and orders are filled when supplies are received.

Back Orders: When an item is on back order you will be notified and have the option to cancel your order or wait until supplies are received. Some back orders may take 7 to 14 days to be received by us for processing. At which time you will be notified that you order is shipped.

Special Price Items: We use Special Price Items as an inventory building tool when products must be purchased by us in bulk. It allows us to defer the high cost of large purchases. The advantage to our valued customers is that we are able to offer exceptional prices to those who take advantage of these offers. The down side is that you may have to wait until a specified number of items are ordered. In this case you will not be charged until the number of orders are reached. When the specified number of orders are reached you will be notified that you may complete your order. More information regarding our Special Price Items can be located when you visit our Special Price Item Catagory when browsing our chef store. Please note that the Special Price Items catagory will periodically be unavailable.

Shipping Costs: The cost for shipping your product can be estimated prior to payment when checking out of our Chef Store. In some cases the actual shipping cost may be slightly higher than the actual cost. In this case you will only be charged for the amount that was provided to you at time of check out.

Damage while in transit: Amateur Chef ensures that when your package is shipped it is shipped in good condition. If you receive a damaged package please report it immediately to the carrier and file a claim. We will not be able to remedy the issue unless you file a claim with the carrier and report it to us. You will need to notify Amateur Chef withn 48 hours by sending an email to our shipping department. You can do this by going to our contact us link and selecting shipping to send a message to shipping@amateurchef.com.

RETURNS

Common courtesy approach to returns: Please read this section carefully if you are considering the return of an item purchased at Amateur Chef. We here at Amateur Chef understand that sometimes items need to be returned. We have a 30 day (from the day you receive your shipment) return policy with guidelines that must be observed.

Guidelines: Guidelines that must be observed are listed below and include return shipping costs, restocking fees, RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization), condition of returned product, 30 day time frame, and defective items.

Return shipping costs: Amateur Chef does not cover return shipping costs. Return shipping costs are expenses that can not be recovered. Please consider this at time of purchase.

Restocking fees: Some of our product suppliers charge a restocking fee for returned items. If a product is subject to restocking fees it will be stated on the product description page for that item.

RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization): Some of our suppliers may require a RMA to return procucts. If a product requires a RMA it will be stated on the product description page for that item.

Condition of returned product: When you return products to Amateur Chef they must be in the same condition as they were when you received them. Products that have been opened can not be returned. For example, If you purchase a pan set and it arrives in a shipping container (i.e. larger box) you may open the shipping container but in order to return the pan set it must remain unopened in the original manufacturer packaging. Not all products will arrive in original manufacturer packaging. For example, If you order a coffee mug it may arrive packed in a shipping container only. In this case the coffee mug may be repacked in the shipping container for return. Amateur Chef reserves the right to refuse products where original manufacturer packaging has been opened. You will not be credited in this case and you will need to pay for shipping to have the product sent to you again. We apologize for this policy and want you to understand that it is in place to satisfy the requirements of some of our manufacturer's return policies.

30 day return period: All sales are considered final when the 30 day return period has expired. This period begins when you receive your package as comfirmed by tracking information provided by the shipping carrier.

Defective items: Some items are covered by manufacturer warranties. If an item is covered by manufacturer warranty this information is included in product descriptions. Manufacturer warranties will arrive with products when you receive them. Please be aware that warranties may require registration with the manufacturer. If your product is defective the manufacturer may elect to replace or repair your product. Products not covered by warranties are guaranteed to be free of defects. Amateur Chef will replace or refund your product should it be defective. This applies to products shipped by Amateur Chef as well as products supplied and/or shipped by third party vendors. Changes to Shipping and Return Policy: Amateur Chef reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change Shipping and Return Policy to reflect company and customer feedback. The most current version of Shipping and Return Policy will supersede all previous versions. Amateur Chef encourages you to periodically review Shipping and Return Policy to stay informed of our updates.
